Cockeysville, Md

The owners purchased their home in Cockeysville in 1984 and raised their two daughters in the home.

About this Project

Over the years they made improvements, including refinishing the basement, building a deck and grape arbor in the rear of the house. But for years when their extended family would visit during the holidays and other family events they realized that the layout of their kitchen and family room spaces did not accommodate either the number of people or the ease of entertaining as efficiently as they would like.

The owners contacted American Contracting and together they came up with a plan to open up the kitchen space and build an addition to the family room on the present deck. The job was complicated by the requirement to obtain a zoning variance to allow for the house to be expanded onto the deck. This delayed the project for a year as a hearing for the variance was requested by nearby neighbors. American Contracting found counsel for the owners and together successfully argued for the project to be built.
