For this Abingdon area master bathroom renovation we constructed one of the largest showers we have ever completed.

We originally did a renovation for these customers in 2018. We redid a second floor overlook to include extending the second floor level over the first floor to include floor framing, a new ceiling and additional electrical outlets in the new space.

Three years later they contacted us again to renovate their master bathroom. Our customers wanted to eliminate the bathtub and to create a much larger shower. They also wanted a heated floor, a larger vanity and a curbless shower so that they could age in place.

The expanded shower (8’ 3” x 3’) required significant plumbing and framing changes. In order to accommodate the larger shower we needed to install two linear drains. Normally one linear drain is sufficient for most showers. This necessitated moving the plumbing lines and some reframing to fit the drain lines into the space.

The heated floor with a programmable thermostat from Schluter Systems was installed. The tile layout was created by American Contracting’s interior designer in consultation with the homeowners. The tile was purchased from Hunt Valley Tile and the plumbing fixtures and vanity were purchased from Ferguson.

Given the size of the shower a custom shower system was necessary. It was designed and fabricated by our friends at Mirror Crafters.

Our customers were very pleased with the results. They have an improved bathroom design that will easily accommodate them for many years to come.
